Your Business and Your Self-Perception

Self-perception is the foundation of everything in your life.

Your self-perception is what you think and feel about yourself, not what other people think about you, what they have said about you, or how they have treated you.

It is the personal belief system you carry into every room, relationship, opportunity, and business decision.

Your self-perception influences:

  • The choices you make
  • The chances you take
  • The opportunities you pursue
  • The prices you charge
  • The boundaries you establish
  • The partnerships you accept
  • The clients you attract
  • The relationships you stay in
  • The situations you have the confidence to leave

In business, your self-perception can determine whether you move confidently toward your vision or continually question your ability to achieve it.

It affects which business deals you remain in, which ones you confidently move away from, and whether you trust yourself enough to recognize when something is no longer aligned with your values.

Your Self-Perception Affects Your Income

Your self-perception directly affects how much money your business earns.

When you do not recognize your own value, you will undercharge, overdeliver, accept agreements that do not align with you, or continue working with people who do not respect your time or expertise.

You may hesitate to talk about your business, ask for the sale, negotiate a contract, introduce a new product, apply for funding, or take the next necessary step.

You may believe you need to be completely prepared before you begin. You may wait for someone else’s permission, validation, or approval.

A healthy self-perception does not mean believing you know everything or that you will never make a mistake, it means knowing that you are capable of learning, growing, adjusting, and continuing forward.

When you believe in your value, you are more willing to create opportunities rather than waiting for opportunities to find you.

Your Self-Perception Shapes Your Business Vision

The way you see yourself will directly affect the vision you have for your future. When you see yourself as limited, your goals will often remain limited. When you begin to recognize yourself as capable, worthy, creative, and resilient, you allow yourself to imagine a much greater future.

Ask yourself:

Do I truly believe I can build the business I envision?

Do I believe I deserve financial success?

Do I trust myself to lead?

Do I believe my ideas have value?

Can I imagine my business growing beyond its current level?

Your future cannot become bigger until you allow yourself to see beyond the limitations you may have accepted in the past.

Your Self-Perception Shapes Your Business Values

Your personal values will become part of the foundation of your business.

The way you see yourself affects what you tolerate, what you expect, and who you choose to work with.

When your self-perception is unhealthy, you may attract or accept the wrong clients, employees, partners, or opportunities. You may continue working with people who create unnecessary stress because you are afraid of losing income, disappointing someone, or saying no.

This can eventually leave you mentally exhausted, emotionally drained, and burned out.

Not every client is your client. Not every opportunity is your opportunity. Not every business relationship deserves continued access to you.

A healthy self-perception gives you the confidence to make decisions based on your mission and values rather than on fear.

It reminds you that protecting your peace, reputation, time, and business is not selfish. It is responsible leadership.

Are You Operating From Confidence or Fear?

How do you know whether your self-perception may be holding you back?

Consider whether you regularly:

  • Doubt your decisions
  • Compare your progress to other people
  • Underestimate your experience or abilities
  • Avoid opportunities because you fear rejection
  • Remain silent when something does not feel right
  • Accept less than your work is worth
  • Have difficulty setting boundaries
  • Stay in unhealthy professional relationships
  • Attract clients who continually stress or overwhelm you
  • Believe that everyone else is more prepared than you
  • Feel uncomfortable talking about your accomplishments
  • Wait for permission to take the next step

These patterns do not mean you are incapable, they simply reveal an area of your self-perception that needs attention. Awareness is not a reason to criticize yourself, it is the beginning of change.

You Are Limitless.

Building a business requires courage. It requires you to believe in something before everyone else can see it. A healthy self-perception is the foundation that allows you to take that journey. Your self-perception influences the choices you make, the changes you are willing to embrace, and the professional and personal relationships you remain in.

It also gives you the strength to leave relationships, agreements, and circumstances that no longer serve your purpose because you know there is more available to you.

There is more to learn.

There is more to build.

There is more to experience.

There is more inside of you.

Now is the time to dig in.

Is what you think and feel about yourself helping you reach your dreams, or is it quietly holding you back?

It is time to find out.

More importantly, it is time to do something about it.

Day 1 Exercise: What Do You Believe About Yourself?

Take out your journal and create a quiet space where you can be completely honest.

Write down everything you currently think and feel about yourself. Include the positive thoughts, the negative thoughts, the fears, the insecurities, the strengths, and the qualities you appreciate.

Do not edit yourself. Do not write what you believe you are supposed to say. Allow everything to pour onto the pages.

When you are finished, slowly read what you wrote.

Pay attention to any statement that makes you feel discouraged, unworthy, incapable, or small.

Those statements need to be challenged, they must be changed.

Take each negative statement and rewrite it into something constructive, truthful, and empowering.

For example:

“I am not experienced enough” can become:

“I am willing and capable of learning what I need to know.”

“I always make the wrong decisions” can become:

“I am learning to trust myself and make thoughtful decisions.”

“I am not good at business” can become:

“I am developing the knowledge, confidence, and discipline to become a stronger businesswoman.”

“I am afraid of failing” can become:

“I understand that every experience gives me information that will help me grow.”

Be creative, honest, and kind to yourself, just as you would a great friend.

You do not have to pretend that every part of your life is perfect. We all have areas that require healing, growth, education, or improvement.

The purpose of this exercise is to pinpoint the beliefs that may be influencing your choices without your realizing it.

Working on yourself is not selfish. You are the person carrying the vision. You are the person making the decisions. You are the person responsible for protecting and developing what you are building.

Working on yourself is one of the most important investments you can make in your business.

Day 1, Step 2: What Do You Love About Your Business?

Write down one specific feature, quality, service, product, or accomplishment that you genuinely love about your business.

Do not minimize it.

Do not compare it to anyone else’s business.

Do not immediately focus on what still needs to be fixed.

Focus on what is already good.

Perhaps you love the way your business helps people.

Perhaps you are proud that you had the courage to begin.

Perhaps you love your product, your mission, your creativity, your customer service, or the freedom your business is beginning to provide.

Write it down.

Then visualize it.

Be thankful for it.

Talk about it.

Allow yourself to feel proud of it.

When you consistently focus on what is working, you begin to build from a place of gratitude and possibility instead of fear and scarcity.

Today, choose to recognize the value that already exists within you and within your business.

Your business will grow as you grow. Your confidence will strengthen as you intentionally change the way you think and feel about yourself. You have what it takes to take the next step. You have got this, and I am here to walk beside you.
